Brent Laing, P.Eng. is a senior railway engineering executive with over 40 years of experience in freight rail operations, infrastructure, and capital programs across North America. He has served as Vice President Engineering and Chief Engineer at both Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian National Railway, where he led large-scale maintenance and renewal programs and oversaw multi-billion-dollar engineering portfolios.
Throughout his career, Brent has held key leadership roles spanning track maintenance, mechanical operations, environmental affairs, and major projects. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta and British Columbia and has been an active contributor to industry development through his involvement with the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association.
Brent now provides strategic advisory services through Laing Railway Consulting Ltd., supporting railways, ports, and industrial operators in engineering, safety management systems, and infrastructure optimization.
John McArthur was co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of UK based rail technology and services company Tracsis PLC. Listed on London Stock Exchange in 2007, Tracsis specialised in workforce management tools, remote condition monitoring of critical railway assets, and consulting services for heavy rail and freight owners and operators. During John’s tenure the business grew revenues in excess of £60M and a market capitalisation in excess of £250M. John has a background in technology venture capital and consulting having previously working with IP Group Plc and Arthur Andersen & Co.
